Why Am I Asking for Your Memo

I've asked you to write me a memo about whether or not you feel a wellness program is a good idea for our company. I'm asking for your opinions because while you will be developing the program, you will also be using it as employees. You are your own audience. As a result, it's important to understand how you feel about the program from the start.

In writing any type of communication, the audience and the purpose should be the first two items you consider. When writing your memo, I will become your audience, your supervisor. The purpose of the memo is to let me know how you feel about developing and using a wellness program at work.

You will submit your memos via email, but I would like us to discuss the memos and all forthcoming projects together, on this blog. So please participate in the discussion. Thanks!

Here are some helpful reminders to check off before you submit your memos:
  • Does the identifying information adhere to your organization’s standards?
  • Did you clearly state your purpose at the start of the memo?
  • Did you use headings to help your readers?
  • If appropriate, did you summarize your message?
  • Did you provide appropriate background for the discussion?
  • Did you organize the discussion clearly?
  • Did you highlight items requiring action?
